"Education is the most powerful weapon which   you can use to change the world". Nelson Mandela
Little Bird's Nest Pre-school

At Little Bird's Nest Pre-School we follow the Early Year Foundation Stage (EYFS) which is the statutory framework for early year’s development.

There are seven areas of learning and development in the EYFS as follows:

Prime areas

  • Personal, social and emotional development

  • Communication and language

  • Physical development

Specific areas

  • Mathematics

  • Literacy

  • Expressive arts and design

  • Understanding the world

The Development Matters, non-statutory curriculum is guidance for the EYFS, and is to support practitioners in their delivery of the  learning and development requirements. Your child will be assigned a key person, which is a member of staff whose role is to help with  every child's care is tailored to meet individual needs. Help the child become familiar with the environment, settle them in and build a relationship with child and parents. They will observe and plan for your child in all seven areas of development in the EYFS to ensure they are progressing towards the early learning goals.

The key person will update the child's learning journey book which is a book containing photographs of your children playing, art and craft work with observations and planned next steps in their development.

When a child is between the age of two and three there will be a review of the child's development in the prime areas. This is a written summary will identify the child's strengths and any area where the child's progress is less expected, this is called a "Two year old progress check". Other write a summative report of your child’s learning will be towards the end of the school year.

Throughout the year parents will be encouraged to tell us of any interests and learning that has happened at home. This information will be added to your child's learning journey books and helps the staff to plan meaningful activities and carry these interests forward. Your Child's can  learning journey books can be viewed at any time.
